Born in Germany, raised in Italy, Amana Melomé grew up exposed to music from around the world. Both grandparents were heavy in the international Jazz scene; her grandfather Jimmy Woode started as the youngest musician in Duke Ellington's band and still tours as one of the golden men of Jazz.
"My grandmother was a jazz vocalist and I remember loving listening to her sing while ironing. By the time I was a teenager I knew so many old jazz songs it surprised even her. I enjoyed them so much, they just stuck" she giggles.
" I've been fortunate enough to see much of the world, and can't wait to see the rest. The languages came into play because I love to communicate and possibly have an exchange with everyone I encounter".
Amana moved back to the States to go to college and made the village in New York City her home for some years. Then, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue her singing career.
Now dedicating full time to write music, she says " the arts ARE my life, everyone in my family is an artist, and creating is as essential as air to me . I am looking forward to the journey as I get a chance to share myself with the world, each day I am excited anew".
Her lyrics are vivid and laced with a consciousness and purity that can only add to the music scene today.
