ROOM WITH NO ECHO
Performance identifies and explores the embodiment of the process of total identity clearance. Body&sound performance structures outline the layer of skin and the layers beneath it.
The experience of an anechoic chamber (a no-echo-room), is the departure point of the performance, or as John Cage put it:
„/.../ the body drifts into a sound of it's own bodyforce…“
Anechoic chamber is the melting pot of embodiment, a space where no Other exists: it results in excommunicated, asocial and naked body. It is a room without echo, a space of communication absence, in which the subject (person) becomes completely objectified – it meets it's own matter and her functions. Subject re-turns to it's organic being without the possibility of re-connecting with the environment. His being has been abstracted from the process of communication: anechoic chamber represents a capsule of total isolation, a symbolic space of existence without information. Subject's environment is defined solely by the layer of own skin covering carnal content that has no reflection capacity – the space of anechoic chamber has no walls that could reflect his mental environment and, by doing so, face subject with itself.
Performance deals with experiments on such phenomena. It plots possible interpretations of the above mentioned experiences and states of mind. It refuses to represent such kind of experiences, rather they are being taken as departure points of the process: it is the plot of the situation that enables the research of embodiment. Firstly with sound – sound emotions, situations and realities; and secondly through relations of sound with space, environments or body-geographies.
