in collaboration with Music Pool

Fabbrica Europa presents the project produced and realized by Associazione I-Jazz: an all stars event mixing live music, electronics, video projections and spoken words, starring trumpeter Paolo Fresu, pianist Danilo Rea, Martux_m (live electronics). Special guest, the legendary jazz trombonist and composer Roswell Rudd.
The concert is inspired by 101 microlezioni di Jazz, the book of the scholar Filippo Bianchi in which there are collected aphorisms of the jazz stars, trying to make understand the symbolic and evocative force that there may be, as well as in sounds, in “the words of jazz about jazz”.

Paolo Fresu began studying the trumpet at the age of eleven while playing in his town band in Sardinia. He began his professional career in 1982. In 1994 he graduated in trumpet studies at the Conservatory of Cagliari and attended the University of Musical and Performing Arts in Bologna (DAMS). In 1996 he received two awards in Paris: the Bobby Jaspar prize from the Académie du Jazz and the Django d'Or for best European musician. He plays periodically in orchestral groups performing contemporary music and he also composes music for theatre, poetry, dance and for radio, TV, video and film. He has performed at all of the leading Italian festivals and at festivals in France, USA, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, UK, Poland, Russia, Ireland, Canada, Japan, India, Australia, Africa, Israel, China and Brazil.

Roswell Rudd is an American jazz trombonist. Although skilled in all styles of jazz, he is known primarily for his work in free and avant-garde jazz. Since 1962 he has worked extensively with Archie Shepp, a close friend. Rudd participated in key free jazz recordings, notably with the New York Art Quartet, on the soundtrack recording for Michael Snow's 1964 film New York Eye and Ear Control, and Michael Mantler & Carla Bley's 1968 Jazz Composer's OrchestrA Communications featuring Cecil Taylor, Don Cherry, Pharoah Sanders, Larry Coryell and Gato Barbieri. A major factor in Rudd's career has been his lifelong friendship with Steve Lacy and their numerous recordings and performances of the music of Thelonious Monk.
In 2004 he brought his Trombone Shout Band to perform at the 4th Festival au Désert in Essakane, Mali.

Danilo Rea is one of Italy’s leading jazz pianists. He received a solid musical training, obtaining his degree from the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome. He has performed with, among others, Chet Baker, Lee Konitz, Steve Grossman, Phil Woods, Art Farmer, Curtis Fuller and Kenny Wheeler. He is widely sought after in pop music, and has performed with Mina, Claudio Baglioni and Pino Daniele. He participated as a solo artist in 1989 in Requiem for Pierpaolo Pasolini by Roberto De Simone at the Teatro San Carlo in Napoli. At the Teatro Rossini in Pesaro, in-ensemble, he performed in Rossini, mon amour, a production for the Rossini Opera Festival. He has given concerts in Italy, France, UK, USA, India, Senegal and China. In recent years he has dedicated himself to teaching and master classes in jazz and improvisation techniques.

Martux_m (Maurizio Martuscello), composer and producer, is a pioneer and key figure of the Italian electronic scene, among the most known and active in Italy and abroad in the field of electronic arts which combine digital sound and image.
His productions were represented with great critical and audience acclaim at major international festivals: Sonar, Venice Biennale, Mutek, Romaeuropa, Dissonance.
His various projects are a crossing between jazz, contemporary classical music and digital electronics.
