City Mix > Amsterdam
Aardvark: "Cult Copy"_ live
Rednose Di strikt _ dj set
Pipslab: "Out" _ visual show

a project by Andrea Mi
in collaboration with Intooitiv

City Mix is a journey among the 'hot-spots' of contemporary electronic creativity among those cities that by nature and vocation have become artistic hotspots: the dynamic hubs of a map in constant expansion. In the ever-growing panorama of multi-media electronic techniques, some cities seem more capable of grasping, motivating and giving space to the productive energy that unites experimentation and high quality production.

The voyage had to begin in Florence, in whose underground new energies and projects are moving, capable of renewing the legacy of the pioneers Pankow and Alexander Robotnik. Next it passes by Amsterdam and its kindred spirits, stops off with the rapid advances of Bucharest and Frankfurt in the east, moves onto the fervid activity of an ever-more global Barcelona, and returns south as always to a bewitching and absolutely up-to-date Istanbul. The journey finishes in the city that has done more than any other to build the European electronic landscape: Berlin.... To watch the sky above and the music beneath.

City mix > Amsterdam

The cultural background of Amsterdam has always been attentive to the cultural currents coming out of the Underground. Recent developments in innovative digital technologies have provided a decisive renewal of this cutting-edge status. Festivals and events like Sonicc Acts, the Dutch Electronic Art Festival and Impakt have established themselves as important occasions for reflection and encounter for the best, internationally renowned, Dutch artists.

KINDRED SPIRITS / RUSH HOURS SHOWCASE
Kindred Spirits is a large collective of DJs, producers, designers and video makers, united by a passion for soul and nu jazz, hip hop and afrobeat, and more generally for all the futuristic tendencies of club culture and their associated visual universes. Looking for an electronic soul.

Aardvark: "Cult Copy"_ live
Over the years, dj Aardvarck (Mike Kivits) has built a solid reputation on the international dance scene based on quality without compromise. From the early 80s his capacity to mix every musical genre, from Hip Hop to Disco, from Funk to Jazz, has catapulted him into the best of the electronic avant-garde. His recording career began with The Netherlands collective, first as a DJ and then as a producer. For twenty years he has played all the main Dutch clubs, hokding residences at Roxy, Paradiso, Club 11 and at Bitterzoet. From the early 90s he has worked as a producer specialising in techno, finishing up at Rush Hour (his current label) where he released the series Cult Copy. Find the Cow is his most famous album, released on Delsin in 2002. His sound is a hybrid of broken beat, house and techno, inspired by the Detroit school and electronic new wave.

Rednose Di strikt _ dj set
Rednose Distrikt is the project created by two of the most famous and talented Dutch producers: Aardvarck and Steven de Peven. They define themselves as two funky clowns who love to experiment with a hybrid sound emerging from their fusions of broken-beat, off-side techno, soul and sampled jazz. Their first release on Kindred Spirits was a single made in collaboration with Alma Horton (vocalist on 4Hero) followed by the album Iller Dan Je Ouders. Their artistic formula combines a series of electronic experiment based on the cut up technique with a playful spirit of adaptation and plagiarism. In essence their sound can be described as 'slapstick electro'.

Pipslab: "Out" _ visual show
PIPS:lab is a collective of young Dutch artists recognised in recent years as one the of the most exciting developments in performative electronica. Irreverent, silly and unpredictable, the driving force of their work lies in contact and direct experience with their live audience. They come from different artistic disciplines and use the computer as a mixer that combines different performance languages and technically advanced visuals, all dressed with a huge dose of humour. Their 'mass media theatre of the absurd' plays with digital interactivity and the physical presence of the performer, generating contradictory hybrids between material and immaterial forms.
PiPS:lab produces every element used live: it develops the software, build the hardware, programs the music, writes the story and produces the visuals.
