Kara in Armenian means stone, hunge, of uncertain etymology,
probably meaning voice.

Armenia is the land of speaking stones, sometimes they sing, at other times they howl. Here more than anywhere else, the spirit is made stone: from the age-old megaliths to the rock-hewn churches and the ancient, sculpted faces of the inhabitants, who are the dancing guardians of this spirit.

In 2006, Versiliadanza embarked on a three-year programme about the world of cinema and the video-cinematographic image. The programme explores the relationship between cinema/theatre and light, movement and rhythm, between image and video and the translation into video of the theatrical language of dance. It is inspired by the power of the image, the traditions and customs of a region and the transformation of a society and a region through the image.
The project has focussed on authors like Tarkovsky, committed to the realization of a cinema concentrating on man's spirituality, sometimes dreamlike, sometimes symbolic or visionary, yet always visual.

This project takes place alongside a three-year programme, operating in collaboration with artistic organisations in Armenia. In 2006 Versiliadanza was the first Italian dance company to be invited to the HighFest Armenian International Theatre Festival in Erevan. This occasion was the starting point of an extended programme of video, dance and theatre creation. In 2007 a video-installation Karahunge-Voci di Basalto was created, based on the images, the sights and the emotions circulating in Armenia in 2006.
