Fog is a work on the instantaneous exploration of bodily states. My concrete need was to identify the possibility of remaining within the improvisational performance, before any organisation of impulse or creative habit.
I have therefore attempted to give the dancers motivation and to work on the mode of their interaction so that the instantaneous composition would develop from a pre-existing machine. This is not a chronological type of structure: a machine creates sense without reference to a time given from outside, rather to the need of the sense itself to develop and to decay.
Structure is imposed, while the machine aids the dancers to find their own mode in the performance and in the choices made for a common aim: the theme of seeking, therefore the fog.
I thought of the sensation of an indefinite landscape, unlimited, pure: the fog as any place where the performer and the spectators might redefine themselves, forgetful of their own "being".
The work can be considered from different viewpoints: the exploration of space; the exploration of a sensibility, of a movement and of a speed linked to the fog and its dispersal; the exploration of a story to be told and the way of doing so without naming the theme; the exploration of a time linked to breathing, to a change in state, to the experiencing of our experiences.
